ABOUT THE ARTIST
Pilar Sagarra was born in Zaragoza and develops her artistic work in Madrid. Until his youth, he spent summer vacations in the countryside. Experiences in complete freedom will leave a deep mark on your subconscious and your inner world will be strengthened in the solitude of those places.
Since childhood, already in school and later in her teaching career, Pilar Sagarra excels in artistic drawing and it will be the seed that will give her confidence to face her dedication to art. Drawings and engravings by Pilar Sagarra are preserved in the Castillo de Larrés Drawing Museum (Huesca) and in the Print Cabinet of the National Library of Spain. As well as in several Municipal Boards and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Madrid. A stay of several months in Munchen - like his time in Greece - marked his future as an artist.
He attended the Circulo de Bella Artes and later completed his studies in the Brita Prinz workshops. With Professor José Rincón he will develop intaglio engraving and additive techniques, as well as with Alicia Diaz Rynaldi photoengraving on polymer, woodcut with Miguel Villarino and lithography with Juan Pablo Villalpando. In his works a great influence of Pier Bonnard, Matisse, Anglada Camarasa, Yayoi Kusama, Ai Weiwei, A. Albacete is perceived.
Those stays in the countryside will be reflected throughout his artistic creation in the different series: “SENSATIONS”, “ENIGMATIC SPACES” “JOY OF LIVING” and “THOUGHTS” Each one with its own concept and characteristics, in intimate connection with the Nature and a common thread: harmony, sensitivity and passion for color.
In the mid-eighties he began to exhibit individually in multiple Spanish cities. At the same time it is selected and awarded in important competitions such as Caja Castilla - La Mancha traveling through Museums of Ciudad Real, Albacete, Cuenca and Toledo. Acquisition award at the Spring Hall, by the Jesus Barcenas Foundation, Valdepeñas. Acquisition award in the “MIRADAS” Contest, by the Jorge Alió Foundation, Alicante His work “ELLAS MIRAN” is selected to participate in Latin America: Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela and is on the cover of the Journal of Refractive Surgery, Canada. His works are also selected in the Salón de Autum, BMV and REINA SOFIA contest, exhibitions presented at CASA DE VACAS, Madrid
It was at the John David Mooney Foundation, Chicago, where Pilar Sagarra became known in the US and it will be the beginning of several individual exhibitions, with the SENSACIONES series being highly applauded. His works are found in important collections in Chicago. Previously, he would have received Honorable Mention in the “II Winter Salon” Goya Art Gallery New York.
He exhibits individually, among others, at JustMad 8 - Dialogue between two artists - COAM, Madrid and CENTRE MATADERO, Madrid at the ESTAMPA Desing Partners Fair; It will be represented at ESTAMPA Internacional Contemporary Multiple Art Fair; DEARTE Madrid; ART Santander; INTERARTE, Valencia; ARCALE Salamanca etc and in International Fairs in: Paris, London, Milan, Rome, Luxembourg, Lausanne, Stockholm, Budapest, Brussels, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Singapore, Miami, New York, Cannes, Essen, Utrecht...
In 2019 he edited “JOY OF LIVING”, a book found in the National Library of Madrid about this collection, the result of research into materials and techniques that he addressed from the beginning of the century, discovering methacrylate as a support when executing his artistic work. on the reverse. He exhibits individually in 2020 at the Ateneo de Madrid and at the A del Arte gallery in Zaragoza. Currently “The Color of Life” can be enjoyed in Phtalo Azul gallery in Seville

ARTIST STATEMENT
Free the soul through creation and knowledge. These were the beginnings and dedication to pictorial art. A need to engage in dialogue with myself and write a journal through images. The passion for Art forced me to reflect on how to offer a dignified look and a poetic encounter with the viewer, unraveling everything we have in common, taking allegory and symbolism as my best weapons and giving an artistic vision. to the life.
The technical processes have undergone a series of alterations over time, going from oil as a material on canvas to plexiglass executed on the back. The encounter with the transparency of methacrylate, as in glass, the light falls to pass through it and will give the works a metaphysical inclination.
I developed this vibrant technique in the “JOY OF LIVING” series, a turning point and experimental research, the result of the confluence of materials, drawing and various techniques, executed on the reverse. They make up a visual and emotional adventure, capturing the perceptions and sensations that real life gives us to capture them, of course. Just like the subconscious and memory emerge in my inner world. The mystery of why one material and not another invades my spirit (collages, intaglio inks, cuttings, resins, enamels, etc.). A complex mix where illusions are poured onto the support. Freely and committed to my intuition, I advance through the plane and as Josef Albers said - everything has form and every form has meaning - Art confronts us with the intimate reality, the one that underlies our consciousness, the one that no one sees.
Josef Albers, director and professor of BAUHAUS, said “it was an experience that changed my life.” There, craftsmanship, experimentation and invention were valued over style and skill. Therefore I discover (when turning over) the work that the obverse has undergone alterations, questioning our way of seeing, looking and feeling. What has been altered does not harm the result, it is an invitation to Hope. IT IS LOVE OF LIFE is the duality of the VISIBLE and the INVISIBLE
The everyday environment, eroticism, motherhood, love of nature, experiences and situations, baroque rooms with their presences and absences, the cities I visit, landscapes and gardens. Madrid where I live are concepts that have accompanied me throughout my work. artistic.
